BAGHDAD: A Kuwaiti delegation visited
the city of Najaf to thank Grand religious scholar Ali Sistani for
praising His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s
‘national unit’” sentiments following Imam Al- Sadiq Mosque terrorist
attack. Sistani, on June 27, extended deepest condolences for families
of victims of the “criminal” attack against the mosque.
The attack, which took place during
Friday prayers, claimed lives of 26 martyrs and injured 227 others. “As
we share with you (families of the victims) the sorrow and pain... we
pray to Allah the Almighty to bestow blessing upon the loved ones and
bless the injured with speedy recovery, and protect all Muslim countries
from evil of enemies,” Sistani said in a brief statement. “We came to
express gratitude for the people of Najaf ... to Iraq and Sayyed Sistani
and other religious scholars for their hospitability while receiving
bodies of our martyrs” who were buried in Najaf at the behest of their
families, Mubarak Al-Khurainej, Kuwait deputy parliament speaker, who
led the delegation, said in a statement to reporters. “We expressed
gratitude for Sayyed Sistani for thanking His Highness the Amir for his
fatherly and national positions, as well as attempts to unite the
Kuwaiti people,” he added. “Terrorism is not related to a nationality or
a religion or sect, but the wisdom of His Highness the Amir and unity
of the Kuwaiti people succeeded in overcoming this tragic attack,” said
Al-Khurainej.
Khaled Shannon, deputy secretary general
of the Alawite authority, said the Kuwaiti delegation comprised of all
segments of the Kuwaiti society, “which sends a clear message of unity
against whoever attempts to incite sectarian sedition among Muslims.”
The Kuwaiti delegation also got acquainted with a project executed by
the Alawite authority in Najaf.
Humanitarian assistance
Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al- Abbdi received the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq Ghassan Al-Zawawi at his office on Saturday to express gratitude for Kuwaiti humanitarian assistance given to those displaced in Iraq. A statement by the office of the prime minister said that “the encounter discussed enhancing bilateral relations between the neighborly countries, security challenges facing the region and Kuwait’s stance alongside Iraq in its war on terror.” The Iraqi premier had stressed the importance of “combining international efforts in fighting ISIL and its deviant ideology.” He also “thanked the Kuwaiti government and people on the humanitarian assistance given to those displaced,” added the statement. The Kuwaiti ambassador, in mid-June, had overseen the delivery of the aid, some 40 tons of assistance and medical aid, administered by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society. — KUN
